Approval of January, 2006 minutes:
Branch Manager's Report: Diane reported that the staff is getting
used to their new space and enjoy showing patrons around the new
areas. The East Grand Rapids staff is still assisting a couple of days
a week to help with express check. This will be the last week that
they will be there.
Friend's Report: The Friends have been busy organizing both the
main floor Friends area and their downstairs storage area. Chuck
mentioned that it's possible that someone would be interested in doing
a story on the Friend's group and their used book program. Everyone
felt this would be very beneficial, while being of great interest to
the community. The Friend's luncheon will be on April 27, 2006. There
will be a presentation on Johnny Appleseed. The Friends are looking
for a name for their room.
Grand Opening / Ribbon Cutting: Ron reported that Mike Washburn
will be the mainline speaker, Mike Julien, Township Supervisior, will
speak and the Friend's group will be represented. Ron reviewed the
first draft of the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony program. He stated that
they are looking for pictures of the early libraries that can be
included in a slideshow during the ceremony. Diane mentioned that the
same boy that was at the 1995 Ground Breaking Ceremony of the original
library, will be attending the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and standing
with her. There is a 3-year-old girl that will be helping in the
ribbon cutting also.
There will be fruit, pastries, coffee and punch served during the
ceremony. The buffet table will be in the Good room. Tables and chairs
will be in the Skutt room.
The group approved the maroon ribbon bookmarks to give out at the
ceremony.
Maureen spoke to the band director of Forest Hills High School and
he confirmed that they will have a jazz band perform at the ceremony.
She is still waiting for more information on a string group.
The township and library staff are asked to park at Noto's
restaurant for the ceremony.
There is a committee working on the flowers. Barbara Kalinka
offered to help with the arrangements, boutonnières and corsages.
All volunteers for the ceremony should plan on being to the library
at 11:00. The library will be open the day of the ceremony. Everyone
should be in the Wisner Center by 1:00 to get his or her boutonnière
or corsage to wear during the ceremony.
Building Progress and Finance: There is approximately $100,000.00
left in the Good & Schut funds that can be used for programming.
Next Meeting: The next Cascade Township Library Advisory Board
meeting will be held on May 1, 2006 at 7:00 p.m.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30.
