Approval of June 6, 2005 minutes: Barb motioned for approval of the
June 6, 2005 Library Advisory Board Minutes. The Board unanimously
seconded. All were in favor, none opposed. Motion carried.
Building and Finance Update: Everyone in attendance received a copy
of the latest Cascade Township Library Addition - Revised Estimate of
Cost spreadsheet, dated October 1, 2005. Holly noted that the actual
bid came in $100,000+ less than architect's estimate. Not all
soil/drainage contingency dollars were needed due to good sand found
after construction began. Only a few thousand of the $212,000
estimated has been used so far. Furnishing contingencies in the amount
of $17,900 are still available to date.
Each attendee received a copy of Proposed Income figures as
interpreted from Ron Goodyke's notes.
The Library Advisory Board will recommend that the contingencies be
put into a fund for future programming for the library.
Diane noted that the Library Fund has been transferred over to the
Library Construction Fund. There is still the Citizens for the Cascade
Library Fund (fundraising fund) and the Skutt & Good Funds. The
board did approve the transfer of the Skutt and Good Estates into the
construction fund, if it is needed.
Funds will have to be determined for opening costs and first year
expenses. Currently estimated at $30,000 by the Finance Committee.
The Friends of the library will have approximately 50% more space
for use in the new addition.
Branch Report: Diane and Laura attended the Cascade Wal-Mart staff
meeting on Friday, September 30. The Cascade Township Library received
a Literacy Grant for $1,250.00, to be used for equipment and learning
stations in the new Early Literacy room. The library was also a
recipient of a $1,000 gift to be used at our discretion. Diane
suggested furniture for elementary age children.
The RFID tagging project is going well. They are almost done. New
self-check equipment will be arriving in 2006.
The Cascade Township Library has been featured in the last two
issues of the Forest Hills Advance newspaper.
Cascade Township Library circulated more books than any other KDL
library in June and July. In August, they were not far behind Wyoming.
Diane will be joining the Cascade Community Foundation group as a
member. The library has been selected as the rain location for summer
Thursday evening concerts. As a member, Diane may be able to better
coordinate their plans with the library (as the library holds programs
on Thursday evenings)
Bob Woodrick, owner of D & W, has donated a life size bronze
statue of a boy to the library for the gardens. He is holding a
newspaper that says "Truth".
Chuck asked that Diane thank her staff and that the board continues
to appreciate them.
Friends Report: Jacque began by saying that the first annual
Appreciation Day on Sunday, October 2, 2005 went very well. Gift
baskets and gift certificates were given out by raffle. Everyone
thought the perpetual money program, to buy used books, was very fun.
199 surveys were received back from the community. This will help the
Friends to determine what is important to the members of the community
and what they would like to see offered as programs.
The luncheon will be held on October 27, 2005 with a discussion of
the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Diane mentioned that they are looking at offering more programs on
Sundays as more families attend on that day.
Naming Opportunities Report: This will be discussed at the next
Fundraing meeting (Oct 18). This would be for the naming on the
outside on the marquee and other naming opportunities. The board
stated that they would suggest naming the addition "Wisner
Center"
Library Use Policy: Diane stated that the library received a
request last week from Caledonia Community Schools to use the program
room for a meeting. Diane is considering offering all taxing
authorities meeting space at ½ price. Lynne, Holly and Jacque will
work with Diane on the Program Room Use Policy.
Grand Opening / Ribbon Cutting: The library addition is estimated
to be complete in May. Lynne Marie said that Jean VanderLaan and
Janine Leslie have volunteered to work on the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.
There is also a need for another committee to handle programming for
the Fall Grand Opening celebration. Diane will be contacting the
township to have a request put into the next newsletter asking for
volunteers that would be interested in working on the Fall Grand
Opening committee. Lynne will look into putting together individuals
that will be willing to join a current committee. Chuck invited all
volunteers to attend next month's meeting.
Next Meeting:
The next Cascade Township Library Advisory Board meeting will be held
on November 7, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in the Library's Program Room.
Meeting adjourned at 8:21.
