2008 Township Board Goals

1 Continue periodic Open Houses with the community, various Boardsand township employees.

2 Expand and enhance relationships with area agencies for economic growth in Cascade Township.

3 Continue to investigate and make a final recommendation as to the feasibility of combining the fire departments of Cascade Township, Grand Rapids Township and Ada Township.

4 Investigate the use of Community Access Channel on cable television to broadcast the meetings of the Township Board, Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals and the Downtown Development Authority.

5 Develop a process to seek competitive bids on services used by the Township and put into place a rotation plan that would call for a bid process in each service area on a regular, periodic basis.

6 Continue to seek and aggressively pursue large tracts of land for open spaces preservation. Seek additional opportunities for public and private partnerships in this.

7 Continue to pursue with Forest Hills Public Schools, Ada Township and the Kent County Road Commission a means to build a pedestrian pathway east from Cascade Road to the FHCHS and FHCMS campus. Work with FHPS on Safe Routes To School (SR2S) grants.

8 Review and evaluate the township's health care plan and policies.

9 Rewrite and update the township cemeteries regulations regarding decorations, burials, maintenance, etc.

10 Determine the need for renewal of the 1988-2007 fire and police dedicated tax millages.

11 Create a recycling program for the Township Hall, Library, Wisner Center and fire stations.

12 Identify opportunities for grant-funded projects within Cascade Township.
